Fairy Princess Thinking Time

All I could think about when I was about 5 was that I really wished I was a little fairy or like Thumbelina, so that I might ride the bumblebees and live and sleep inside flowers. Fairy's don't have to work or school like our Westernized idea of what those things are. They can fly and do magic too. And you think about how easy it would be to find a cute hole in a tree and make your own tiny furniture.

That's all you'd really need to do, since you live outside civilized society.

I can see how this mystic tribal lifestyle might appeal to children. Communitarianism and fierce clansmanship are a part of natural instinct. In our Lockean social contract society, we are individuals with no obligations - other than acting in a way that does not interfere with another's contentedness - to anyone. When you are small and untamed, it makes perfect sense to want to live and explore the natural world as there are an infinite number of colors and patterns and alien creatures.

Instead, I've grown accustomed to my body being comfortable with all the luxuries of a climate controlled environment. My mind is too free to wander. I have very little focus or patience for things which I do not wish to do or dwell. And my daydreams are not nearly as grand now that I have developed a rational process to abstract thought.

Bummer.
